Meagan joined The Law Offices of Jonathan Merel, P.C. as an Associate in 2020. Meagan graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2017 where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and with a minor in Journalism. She then received her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in May of 2020, where she earned a certificate in Family Law. Meagan will be admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2021.

Meagan is from Raymond, Mississippi and is a first-generation attorney in her family. During her time at Ole Miss, she volunteered and interned with a non-profit adoption agency in Mississippi where she helped organize and run a program called “Rescue 100”. “Rescue 100” trained and equipped foster families through online training and a weekend training course to expedite licensing homes in order for more children to be placed in good homes throughout the state. It was during this experience that Meagan found a passion for advocacy and for helping families and children.

After moving from Mississippi to attend DePaul University College of Law, Meagan was selected as a Family Law Fellow her first year at DePaul. After serving on the executive board of DePaul’s esteemed Child and Family Law Association for two years, she served as the President of the organization and was appointed the student representative of DePaul University’s Family Law Advisory Board her final year of law school. Throughout her law school career, she volunteered for the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic (now Ascend Justice), worked at a family law firm in downtown Chicago, and clerked for a distinguished Judge in the Domestic Relations Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, all of which helped her gain experience in all aspects of family law.

Meagan received the CALI Award for Legal Excellence (an honor given to the highest grade in the class) for her Family Law Legal Drafting Class which focused on child advocacy.

Meagan is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Women’s Bar Association of Illinois, and the Christian Legal Society.
